TYPES OF EATING DISORDERS
While these are the more commonly known EDs, there are other types of lesser-known eating disorders that are not listed here such as Orthorexia and Body Dysmorphic Disorder.
ANOREXIA NERVOSA
Individuals with Anorexia Nervosa have an intense fear of gaining weight and restrict the amount of food they consume.
BULIMIA NERVOSA
Individuals with Bulimia Nervosa binge eat, then purge their food in an unhealthy way such as using laxatives, self-induced vomiting, or weight loss supplements.
BINGE EATING DISORDER
Individuals with Binge Eating Disorder have episodes where they consume large quantities of food (usually very quickly to the point of discomfort), with a feeling of loss of control during the binge, and feelings of guilt and shame after the binge.
AVOIDANT AND RESTRICTIVE FOOD INTAKE DISORDER
Also known as "extreme picky eating". These individuals have very selective eating habits and/or disturbed eating patterns. Resulting in notable nutrition, energy deficiencies and the inability to gain weight.
